The old adage, “Defense wins championships,” proved true during the IIFA title game Saturday night at Stampede Sports Arena. On the strength of a stout defense and an a not so efficient offense, the

North Texas Crunch defeated the Southlake Pirates 10-8 in front of a sold out crowd to give the city of Southlake its first professional football championship.

The Crunch defense set an IIFA title game record for holding an opponent to eight points lead by DB of the year and All-IIFA 1st team Elijah Page, All-IIFA members DT- Chris Lewis and DB Damion Cox. North Texas Crunch RB and IIFA RB of the year Quinton Jones scored the only TD for the Crunch on a five yard run. Than kicker and back up QB Chad Marrow sealed the VICTORY with a 26 yard field goal with :43 left in the game.

Pirates

The Pirates, however, were unhappy with two calls during the game that they believe would have affected the outcome of the

game. They posted a video on Youtube and their Facebook page giving footage of the plays. Apparently, a safety by the Pirates defense and a touchdown by the Pirate offense were negated.

The controversy will surely brew throughout the off-season leading to a spirited year in 2011.

The Regional Indoor Football League had a bit of “parting of ways.” It is unclear what really happened as members of the present RIFL claim to have ousted Williams. Williams sent the following statement to clarify things from his perspective.

Charter members of the Regional Indoor Football League have moved forward after weeks of discussion, we felt the hard work that had been put into it had somewhat been eroded and the best thing for us to do was leave the name behind us .

In the wake of that we have emerged stronger and in much better shape our new logo and name send ‘s a clear message of the break and where we intend to go, our new site will be up in soon .

The Professional Indoor Football League will launch in April of 2011 but free open league combines will be held starting in August of this Summer in every teams market, and we expect to launch the PIFL Network in a few months as we start to build toward the August Owner meetings and 2011 Schedule release in September, we currently have 24 teams and a possible all New Mexico division or mixture of those teams into the Western division.

The PIFL will play crossover games in 2010 as a few teams will play some low key games but one that will have fans watching is the June 12Th match up of the West Texas Rustlers vs the Louisiana Swashbucklers of the Southern Indoor Football League in Louisiana.

The Rustlers are loaded with talent and this should be a great game as the Rustlers bring to the table a strong defensive line something the Bucks have had problems with already this season.
