The New Orleans Saints rallied from a 10-0 and a 17-13 deficit to win their first ever Super Bowl Sunday night 31-17. Helping the Saints win the Super Bowl were four Dallas-Fort Worth area players.

Five TCU football players have received All-America honors from Rivals.com.
(TCU Athletics, Fort Worth, TX)–TCU defensive end Jerry Hughes was a first-team selection. Jeremy Kerley was a second-team choice at punt returner, while center Jake Kirkpatrick, offensive tackle Marshall Newhouse and linebacker Daryl Washington were third-team picks.

Don’t look now, but we have a sweep this weekend in local college football. The number 6 ranked TCU Horned Frogs took care of UNLV in their first shutout of the season. The SMU Mustangs won the battle of “Back up QB’s” against Tulsa, and the UNT Mean Green got their second win of the season. Next thing you know, the Cowboys will win too!

It was a perfect fall afternoon in Arlington, TX at Mavericks Stadium to watch a football game. The University of New Orleans rolled in to town to take on the University of Texas at Arlington in a club football game. The New Orleans Privateers steam-rolled the Mavericks on the strength of a second quarter explosion and the arm of quarterback Chris Brady.

If you ask UTA Mavericks Offensive Coordinator David Pullig, Matt Funk is one of the best athletes on the team. When talking about Funk on Saturday before their game with South Alabama, he talked about Funk’s hands. However, it was Funk’s tackling prowess that impressed Pullig during the road game against Concordia College.

It was a beautiful afternoon for college football, and for the residents of Arlington, TX, that’s what they got. While many students at the University of Texas at Arlington are awaiting big time football, the Mavericks are home of a club football team led by head coach Robert Green. The Mavericks entered their first home game 0-2 and were looking to pick up their first win among the friendly folks at Mavericks Stadium.

The UTA Mavericks football club will play their first home game of the Fall season on Saturday, October 17, 2009, 3 pm, at Mavericks Stadium in Arlington. The Mavericks have already played two games on the road, losing both games. In their first game, they lost 19-3 to the University of New Orleans football club team, and in their second game, they lost to Concordia College, an NAIA team, 66-0.

The UTA Mavericks traveled to New Orleans on Saturday, September 19 to take on the club football team at the University of New Orleans. The Mavericks came away with a 19-3 loss in a game filled with extreme amounts of humidity.
