The Weatherford Bullets enter their 5th year as a semi-pro team. Prior to the Bullets joining the Texas United Football League, they were a flag football team in Weatherford.

Adam Sharp, a current standout player, was already playing semi-pro ball in Dallas. He encouraged his flag football teammates to join together and form a full contact team. Teammates joined forces and started the Weatherford Bullets in 2007.

Jeromy Puckett and his wife Chastity took over the team this past summer. Joe Greene will be the head coach for the new owners in 2012.

Weatherford’s natural rival in the Abilene Gladiators folded this season. Their long time foe will now be their main rival, the Fort Worth Avengers.

Dfwfootball.net was at both games between them in 2011. Both games came down to the wire. These two should have another great round of games in 2012.

Weatherford made it to the TUFL playoffs last year, only to lose to eventual champion Cooke County.

The 2012 season begins for the Bullets this Sunday, 11/6/2011. Tryouts for the team start at 1:30pm when registration begins.

Weatherford will have some familiar face back this year. Matt Long will be returning to QB for the Bullets again. Antonio Rodriguez steps back into his role as middle linebacker. Rodriguez played for Barcelona (2003) and Amsterdam (2004) of NFL Europe.

For more information about the Bullets visit their website at www.weatherfordbullets.com or their Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/pages/Weatherford-Bullets/228054173097

The Minor Professional Football League has added four teams from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Joining the MPFL are the 2011 Texas United Football Leageu Champions Cooke County Outlaws, the Collin County Rattlers and two new teams, the Dallas Warhawx and the Tarrant County Calvary.

After a successful debut year in the TUFL, the Outlaws are bringing their high powered offense to the MPFL. The TUFL has stated on its website that the Outlaws were dismissed due to improper benefits to the players by the Cooke County coaching staff.

The TUFL was in the process of informing the Cooke County Outlaws and the League membership that the Outlaws would not be allowed to return to the TUFL in 2012 as a result of key league violation in 2011. . .

Payment or reimbursment to players is a clear violation of League rules. It jeopardizes the amateur status of our young athletes with college eligibilty. The message is clear,”the TUFL will not tolerate violations jeopardizing the college eligibility of our players!”

There were other very questionable conduct and ethical violations which the league is choosing not to elaborate on, or disclose. (TUFL Website)

According to sources with Deep End Media, the benefits were gas cards and food vouchers for the Championship game only. Cooke County knocked off the Hunt County Longhorns 34-16 on June 18 to win the TUFL title.

The Collin Count Rattlers is one of the newest teams in the DFW area, and in three years, the teams has made a splash including an appearance in the TUFL Championship game in 2010. This past season, the Rattlers lost to the Longhorns 26-12 in the semi-finals after entering the playoffs as the number one seed. Of course, the Rattlers is the home of the famous Venom Girls.

The Dallas Warhawx is a new team that will be coached by Don High, Steven Laster, Angel Rivera III and Mark Ezell.

We have learned very little about the Tarrant County Calvary.

By Chase Rader–The Collin County Rattlers took their first possession of the second half with 10:17 left in the 3rd quarter. With the score tied 7-7, the Rattlers drove the ball from their own 11 yard line and ate up 9:30 of the clock to score the go ahead touchdown to put them up 14-7. Billy Bowman’s deflected touchdown pass found Justin Hille in the end zone to cap a drive that saw five first downs and two 4th down conversions.

Justin Hille celebrates his TD

The Rattlers opened up the game with a long drive that started at their own 20 and chewed up 6:19 off the clock that the Rattlers couldn’t convert into points. The drive produced 5 five first downs like their second half opening drive. The ensuing punt flipped the field to set the Hunt County Longhorns back at their own 7.

Hunt County went three and out, as they did for all three of their first quarter possessions against a stingy Collin County defense led by defensive linemen Rod Richardson and Brandon Hearne.

The Longhorns first 1st down of the game came at 13:24 in the second quarter when RB Kenny Reed reversed field on a sweep to set them up in the red zone.

The Longhorns took advantage and drew first blood of the 2010 Texas United Football League championship rematch with a TD pass from QB Terry Mayo to Ameer Ali with 12:10 left in the first half.

Collin County responded with an 80 yard touchdown pass from Jason Bamhouse to John Rogers to knot the score up at 7-7 with just less than 5 minutes left in the half.

The Longhorns were looking at 4th & goal in the beginning of the fourth quarter after a good drive to respond to the Rattlers opening march in the second half. Leroy Plant picked Longhorn QB Mayo to stop Hunt County from matching the score.

After trading punts the Rattlers took over at their own 26 with 8:42 left in the game. Once again, the Rattlers staged an impressive drive on the legs of Greg Greene and George Moss. Collin County used up over six minutes of the clock and scored the final touchdown on a great run by George Moss to win the game 21-7.

By Chase Rader–The Collin County Rattlers open up their third campaign in the Texas United Football League with a rematch of the 2010 championship game. The Hunt County Longhorns visit the Rattlers Saturday February 26th, , 7:00 pm, at the home of Rattlers, Kimbrough Stadium in Murphey, TX.

The last two games between the Rattlers and the Longhorns have been decided by a field goal. Collin County won the second matchup against Hunt County in the 2010 season 34-31 on April 24th. Hunt County defeated the Rattlers 17-14 for the TUFL title eight months ago in June.

Shawn Ellis will once again coach the Rattlers. This is his second year at the helm of the Rattlers. He was previously with the Dallas Chargers/Texas Wranglers. He also serves as the Defensive Coordinator. Look for a blitz heavy scheme from the Rattlers once again.

Chris Coldwell is also back with Coach Ellis to serve as Offensive Coordinator. This will be his second year with the Rattlers.

Come watch the Rattlers (and the Venom Girls!) begin to make another TUFL title run in 2011 next Saturday. Given the recent history with these two teams, it should make for a great game to open the TUFL season.
