DFW Arena Football News

Arena football is one of the most popular Spring football sports.  If you’ve never been to an arena game, do yourself a favor and check one out. The pace is fast, it’s exciting and full of lots of action.  This season, the Metroplex will see four teams take the field in arena football.

Allen Wranglers

The Wranglers debuted last season and changed owners at the end of the season. The Wranglers will be looking to be competitive in the Indoor Football League. The Wranglers pay in the Allen Events Center in Allen, TX.

Wranglers WR Wonseleh Brewer

The biggest news in the off-season was the Wrangler’s offer to Terrell Owens to play. There is no official word, as of yet, whether or not T.O. has signed, but if he has, this would be a huge boost to the second year organization. Further, fans will flock to see the former Dallas Cowboys receiver and what he can do in arena football.

Mesquite Bandits

The Mesquite Bandits is a new team in a new league.  The Lone Star Football League formed this off-season with several Texas teams from the IFL jumping to the new league. North Texas Crunch owner Larry Hendrix, Jr. is set to be the Bandits’ Assistant Coach. Rodney Blackshear will serve as the Head Coach. Resistol Arena will be the home for the Bandits, so they should have a great setting to watch arena football.

North Texas Crunch

The Crunch has been the flagship franchise for the Independent Indoor Football Alliance for the first four years. Last season, the Crunch yielded the IIFA championship when the East Texas Wranglers won the title.  The Crunch will be looking to regroup and challenge for the 2012 IIFA Championship.

DFW Texans

The Texans is a new organization, but they have been around. The Texans became an expansion team in the IIFA combining the teams of the Texas Krush and the Southlake Pirates. The team is holding another Open Tryout this coming weekend.DFW Texans

Dallas Vigilantes

The Dallas Vigilantes were the local team that were members of the AFL. After its first season, the teams has been very quiet on its Facebook and website.  There are no mentions of the 2012 season, and, it seems, they are not listed on the AFL schedule. It looks like, the Vigilantes are done, or, at least, done with Dallas.  It looks as if we will not be watching the Vigilantes this Spring.

Former Wrangler signs with Dallas Cowboys

ALLEN, TX-Keenan Mace, former defensive end for the Allen Wranglers is taking his talent to the National Football League. Mace signed with the Dallas Cowboys earlier this week and is set to begin training camp with the team in San Antonio on Thursday.Allen Wranglers

“It was one of the most amazing things that happened to me, “Mace said. “Waking up to a phone call from the Cowboys saying they wanted to sign me was so unreal. I couldn’t tell if I was still sleeping or if it was reality.”

Wrangler head coach Chris MacKeown was not surprised by the Cowboys’ decision to sign Mace.

“Keenan is loaded with talent there’s no doubt,” MacKeown said. “It’s exciting that he got signed by them.”

With a record of 12-5 in their first season as an Indoor Football League franchise, the Wranglers won the Lonestar Division title and made an appearance in the Intense Conference championship. MacKeown said that his team was scouted regularly in their inaugural season from several NFL teams who have regional scouts living in the area.

“Our players get a lot of looks,” MacKeown said. “There were opportunities for Keenan and it just worked out.”

Mace said he’s proud to be a part of the Cowboys organization and excited to play for Dallas fans.

“As a kid I told everyone I would be an NFL player, “Mace added. “I didn’t know if my life would take this turn, but all the hard work, sacrifices and dedication paid off in the end.”

Allen Wranglers advance in the playoffs defeat Wyoming Cavalry

ALLEN, TX-The Allen Wranglers continue to make history in their inaugural IFL season; Sunday afternoon’s game against the Wyoming Cavalry proved no different.

Keithon Flemming

Keithon Flemming ran for 70 yards

With a 27-20 over the Cavalry, the Wranglers kept their championship hopes alive. Wrangler head coach Chris MacKeown was excited about the win but more concerned with next week’s matchup.

“We are going to get a win next week,” MacKeown said.

The Wrangler defense saw solid play from Frankie Solomon. Solomon had three interceptions and 30 yards returning on the night. Defensive back Nick Fellows was also solid defensively for the Wranglers with two interceptions on the night. Offensively, Wrangler running back Keithon Flemming ran for 70 yards and two touchdowns. Other Wranglers knocking in six points for the Wranglers were Jason Jones and Jackie Robinson, both with receptions from quarterback Kewan Dewberry.

The Wranglers will travel to Alaska this week to face the Fairbanks Grizzlies. A win in that game will put give them a spot in the Intense Conference final. From there, the Wranglers would face the winner of the United Conference in hopes of winning the United Bowl and being crowned the 2011 Indoor Football League champions.
