Defenders Are Successful in First Year

The Dallas Defenders is a first year football team in the National Public Safety Football League, however, they had a very successful debut winning the Southwest Conference Championship and only losing one game.

The Defenders was started by Marc Courville of Frisco in 2008 after doing research in 2007.  The Defenders were able to win the “Best in Texas” Trophy after beating the Houston Gunners 34-0 and the Central Texas Wolfpack 22-17.

Later in the year on May 2, the Defenders hosted and beat the New York Strongest at Trinity Christian Academy in Addison, TX in a game that was played in thunderstorm conditions.  A 44 yard interception return for a touchdown sealed the 33-14 for our local Defenders.

The only loss of the year came to Colombus Marauders in Columbus, OH.  The Defenders lost when the Marauders scored a touchdown with nine seconds left in the game.

“Our 2010 schedule will be announced in November 2009.  This year our goal is to play for the Division II National Championship,” Courville told me by email.

The Defenders will begin their Fall Mini-camp in October at Frisco ISD Memorial Stadium.  “All full-time police officers, firefighters and detention officers are eligible to play,” noted to Courville.

Anyone eligible and interested joining the Defenders can contact them at their website, www.DallasDefendersFootball.org.

The Mission of the Dallas Defenders Football Club is to provide monetary support to families of fallen police officers and fire fighters and to raise funds to benefit the youth in our surrounding communities of the Dallas / Fort Worth area.
