The Weatherford Bullets (3-1) notched their third win of the season with a convincing 28-8 win against the Tarrant County Hazard in Fort Worth last Saturday night.
The Bullets found themselves trailing at the end of the first quarter 8-7 despite QB Matt Long hooking up with wide-out Brett Jackson for the games first score. The Hazard lead wouldn’t last long as the Bullets running game got on track soon thereafter. Running back Mike Armstead had a touchdown run in the 2nd quarter to put the Bullets on top at the half by a score of 14-8.
The running game would remain a strong suit thanks to a dominating performance by the Bullets offensive line. Running backs Kenn Mollette and Fred Thomas both had multiple big runs in the third quarter that kept the clock running and the chains moving. But when a big play was needed on a 3rd and 12 from the Bullets own 45 yard line, Long was again called upon to make a play in the passing game. He delivered a perfect pass down the left sideline to a streaking Adam Sharp who hauled in the pass and went 55 yards for the score making it a 21-8 ballgame.
From there the Bullets relied on relentless pressure by their defense to keep the Hazard passing out of sync in the 2nd half. The Bullets were able to keep the ball most of the final frame and it was apparent that the Weatherford offensive line had worn down the Hazard front seven. The Bullets capped the scoring with a 1 yard touchdown run by FB Tyrone Donerson on the tail end of a clock eating 14 play drive.
This Saturday March 28th, the Bullets (3-1) will play host to Abilene (2-1) at home in Millsap’s Bulldog Stadium, kickoff is at 7pm.
